Deal: The first Transformers movie is free to watch on Google Play right now

transformers banner

If you need something to watch this weekend and have yet to see the Transformers series launched in recent years, Google is giving you a good reason to start. The company is offering Transformers for free in their latest promo. To be specific this is the 2007 film that kicked off the live action rendition of one of history’s greatest and most popular intellectual properties.

In case you don’t know what Transformers is about, two alien races of robots — the autobots (good guys) and decepticons (bad guys) — are fighting each other for ultimate dominance. The fight is brought to earth, and the autobots soon find out that they’ll need to call on the courage of the human race to help fend off their foes.

If not for nostalgia, then you owe it to yourself to watch it for the cool factor alone. Oh, and this is a Michael Bay affair, so get ready for explosions. Lots and lots of explosions. Grab it from Google Play right here.

Deal Alert: Motorola giving free Moto E 2nd Gen (3G) with purchase of a Moto X 2014

Moto E (2nd Gen.) Front Dynamic - Black

The new Moto E on its own is a good value, but if you had your heart set on a second generation Moto X then you’ll be even more pleased with Motorola’s latest proposition. Buying a Moto X will get you the new Moto E for absolutely nothing.

It’s the 3G version, mind you, so if 4G LTE is a necessity then it’s probably not as sweet of a deal. But a free phone is a free phone and it’s hard to argue with .

The new Moto E added a front-facing camera to go along with yesteryear’s 5MP rear camera. You’ll also get a slightly bigger battery at 2,390mAh, 8GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM and a 4.5 inch 960 x 540 display. This particular 4G-less option does ship with a Snapdragon 200 as opposed to the Snapdragon 410, so be sure to keep that in mind when thinking about its performance.

It’ll ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop, too, so you’ll be good to go on a fairly recent version of Android (5.1 being the most recent). The deal lasts through March 24th so you have a few days to take advantage. Do so over at Motorola’s comfy abode right here.

LG G4 users will get 100GB of Google Drive storage for free

LG G4 google drive

LG made sure to mention many times that the LG G4 has expandable storage, but that hasn’t stopped them from catering to cloud lovers. All G4 owners will get 100GB of Google Drive storage for free. This is on top of the 15GB of storage Google already gives users. With all of these storage options you should have plenty of space to save the full-size RAW photo files. Will this convince you to give the LG G4 a shot?

Developers can now apply to get a free HTC Re Vive VR headset

HTC Re Vive DSC08870

HTC revealed back in March that they’d be giving select developers a chance to get a free HTC Re Vive virtual reality headset, and now the day for you to try your hand at getting one has arrived. Valve and HTC have opened up the signup sheet for any interested developers.

Much like how Google hooked lucky developers up with Glass, Valve and HTC aren’t looking for just anyone. They want the best developers with the most interesting ideas to apply.

If you don’t have a great idea, a good concept or can’t show the proof, skill and wherewithal to convince them you can develop for virtual reality, this form is not for you. If you’ve never typed out a line of code, this form is definitely not for you. But if you are a developer with a unique idea but lacking the hardware to see it through, be sure to head right here (you’ll need a Steam account) and throw your name into the hat. Good luck!

Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge owners to get free Uber rides as part of new partnership

UberX-galaxy-s6

Samsung and Uber have announced a new partnership that will include the taxi-but-not-technically-a-taxi car sharing service as a featured item in the new Galaxy Gifts widget and unlock free rides for Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge owners. New Uber users will earn in credit toward their first rides.

The credit will be added automatically when downloading the app via the Galaxy Gifts widget and signing up for a new account. Unfortunately, the offer does not seem to extend to those who already have an Uber account, making the Samsung deal more or less the same incentive offered to new users signing up with a code provided by a friend. Ultimately, non-Galaxy S6 owners won’t be missing out on much.

Where the partnership goes beyond free ride credit and a featured spot in Samsung’s widget remains to be seen, but it follows similar partnerships with wireless partners like AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint.

Buy a Samsung Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge from T-Mobile and get an entire year of Netflix for free

Sasmung Galaxy S6 Calendar Clock app icon DSC08966

Whether you have a contract about to expire or you’re on the fence about the Samsung Galaxy S6, T-Mobile is looking to sweeten the deal for you. Besides being one of the few carriers in the US to offer unlimited data plans, T-Mobile and Samsung will now throw in a full year of Netflix for those buying a Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge, absolutely free of charge. If you do the quick math ( a month), that’s right around a 0+ value.

The offer is only available between March 27th through April 9th. After a purchase has been made, you’ll receive a promo code that you’ll need to submit by May 21st on Samsung’s promotions page here. It’s still unclear if this can be added to those who already have a Netflix subscription.

Unfortunately, like all the other carriers in the US, T-Mobile was mum on actual availability, still not giving us a solid date on when we can expect the device to launch. We imagine it’ll be around the time of the phone’s global launch on April 10th, but in the meantime, you can sign up for notifications via T-Mobile pre-register page here.

Every HTC One M9 owner to get one free replacement for water damage, cracked screen, or switching carriers

Here’s everything you need to know about the HTC One M9 | Talk about it at AndroidForums.

HTC One M9 DSC08389

HTC’s big HTC One M9 news today wasn’t about a release date or price as we’d all thought and hoped, but it is pretty big. As we’d heard yesterday, the company has officially announced “Uh-Oh Protection,” a new guarantee that nets you a free overnight HTC One M9 replacement in the event of a cracked screen, water damage or the unfortunate hassle of switching carriers.

HTC UH OH Protection provides consumers who damage their new HTC One M9 with an untimely fall onto the pavement or into a toilet with a free phone replacement within 12 months of purchase. Consumers who don’t take advantage of UH OH Protection within the first 12 months will receive 0 towards the purchase of a future HTC One.

Screen Shot 2015-03-18 at 1.23.56 PM

There aren’t many strings attached, though there are a couple of things to note:

  • To get your replacement overnight, you’ll need to offer up a credit card number for HTC to put a 0 hold on. You know, just in case you’re trying to pull a fast one on them.

  • You can also opt for a more traditional replacement approach where they send your new smartphone out the moment they receive your damaged one.

  • The offer is US-only for now, unfortunately.

All it takes is a quick call to 866-449-8358 or a chat with HTC’s customer service reps online in order to get you on your way. This is a huge offer that most other companies ask you to fork over 0 or more for (and that’s not even including a costly deductible that might drive that cost up even further).

Is HTC trying to become the “Un-manufacturer?” Between this and everything else that comes as part of the HTC Advantage it certainly seems that way. Other OEMs should do well to take note. HTC is holding an event and live Q&A with customers in regards to the announcement in Seattle later today, and you can watch along right here starting at 9am Pacific:

Get 4 Avengers-themed cases for free when you buy a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 [DEAL]

avengers case note 4

Samsung’s really going in with their promotion of the latest Avengers movie, and the latest will be quite nice for those in the market for a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 soon. The company is offering up 4 different Avengers-themed cases whenever you buy a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 in the United States.

No, you don’t get to choose 1 out of 4 — you get all 4! That’s a pretty insane deal, and even if you aren’t an avengers fan you can’t argue with free. It helps that they look badass, with The Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man and Thor all being well represented here. Samsung says the set is worth a retail value of a whopping 0, though we’d argue that only a madman would retail these cases at each — there really isn’t anything special about them other than the Avengers designs.

The promotion lasts through June 1st or until they’ve given 4,300 of these sets away, whichever comes first. All you’ll need to do once you have your Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and accompanying receipt in hand is head right here.

HTC Re discounted to $150 for Mother’s Day, comes with $60 in free accessories

htc-re-standing-colors

If you’re struggling to find the perfect gift for mom this Mother’s Day, the HTC Re portable camera is just as good a gift as any. The go-anwhere camera is seeing a discount, dropping from 0 to only 0 for a limited time. While that’s not the lowest we’ve price we’ve seen the camera listed for (Best Buy was recently selling them for 0), HTC’s deal does come with in free accessories.

It’s nothing too crazy, just a protection pack, bar mount (for bikes and whatnot), and clip mount (backpacks) — but it’s enough that it’ll make a complete gift. Or, pick up an HTC Re for yourself. Don’t worry, we wont tell anyone. We were wary at first, but fell in love with ours during our recent trip to Barcelona. You’d better hurry, the deal is only available until May 10th. Link provided below.

T-Mobile LG G4 begins shipping tomorrow with a free 128GB microSD card

lg g4 brown leather

T-Mobile has confirmed that they will begin taking orders for the LG G4 online tomorrow, and that the flagship phone will be ready to ship as soon as you confirm your order. This is about a week ahead of its expected June 3rd in-store availability, so this may be the quicker option for you to get your hands on it if you don’t want to wait any longer.

The LG G4 has proven to be a pretty stoic competitor for 2015, with an exceptional camera, good design and great performance being the driving forces behind the much-earned excitement of future owners. You can read our LG G4 review if you’re wondering whether it’s worth its skin.

The phone will cost down and .99 monthly payments over 24 months, or 9.76 if you decide you want to go without a contract. That very reasonable price tag comes with an added 128GB microSD card for no extra cost, but only while supplies last. Not a bad deal at all, we’d say. Let us know if you’ll be picking one up once checkout goes live.

Nexus Player sees price drop on Google Store, now only $80 with free shipping

Nexus Player now 80 dollars

We’re barely a few days away from Google I/O and related or not, the ASUS-made Nexus player is now officially been marked down to in the Google Store (that’s about off from the original price). It’s not a bad deal, but still about more expensive than the recent markdown on Amazon. Of course, the Nexus Player on the Google Store comes with free shipping, so that’s something you may want to factor into pricing. Not sure how long this will last (it very well could be permanent), but if you prefer to make your purchases with Google, have at it.

Flickr 4.0 brings another major redesign, improved search, Auto-Uploadr, and 1TB of free storage

Flickr new again

In case you haven’t been keeping track, almost every year now Flickr undergoes a dramatic redesign in hopes of enticing fans of photos sharing services like Instagram or even Google+. It was almost 2 years Flickr 2.0 introduced its biggest changes, offering up new Android apps and giving users 1TB of free storage to store all their photos. Around this same time last year, the photo service fine tuned their apps’ design with Flickr 3.0, aiming for something more akin to Instagram (but with much higher quality uploads).

Today, Flickr is announcing another big change, one that sees yet another complete UI overhaul to both their online site and mobile apps. Because Flickr knows you’ve got thousands of photos and videos spread across multiple devices — and 1TB of space to store them — they wanted to make easier than every to store and organize them online.

Flickr 4.0 Android update

That’s why Flickr is introducing their new Auto-Uploadr, a little something built into their new Android and iOS apps (there’s a desktop app too) that simply auto uploads all your photos and videos to Flickr. The photos are all marked private by default, so you don’t have to worry about anyone viewing them (unless you choose to share them). The best part is Flickr’s new editing tools are no longer permanent, meaning the original unedited file is always available.

Once uploaded, Flickr’s new unified search features — which can find photos based on landmarks, location, or even color palette — make it easier than ever to keep everything nice and tidy. They can even detect and avoiding uploading duplicate photos, so don’t worry about backing up everything all over again.

You can find the new Flickr 4.0 update right now on the Google Play Store. As always, it’s completely free to use is a compelling option for those looking to backup and share their photos online.

Adult Swim is giving away free Google Cardboard VR headsets to try out their new game [UPDATE]

Adult Swim Games Virtual Brainlord

The folks at Adult Swim games want you to try their new VR app/game. They want you to try it so bad, they’re willing to give you a Google Cardboard VR headset for free. But there’s a catch: you gotta send them a fax first. Once you get past this relatively small hurdle (you can either dig one up from the basement or use one of the many applications that mimic this functionality in the Google Play Store), you’ll be on your way to enjoying their newest title in the Play Store, the aptly titled Adult Swim Virtual Brainload.

Less of a game and more of an “experience,” Virtual Brainlord takes you on a journey in some sort of trippy, virtual, alternate reality. We didn’t get to try it for ourselves, but the screenshots are enough to give us flashbacks of our college days. It even comes with a warning, it’s that intense. Whether you want to try the game or not (and you should), you can find their free Google Cardboard form down below. Just print, fax, and wait for your paper headsets to arrive in the mail. Oh and sorry to our friends overseas, this is US-only.

Adult Swim Google Cardboard VR_Form

UPDATE: Although we were able to confirm the promo by sending in our own fax (it worked fine for us), it appears the promo — which stated only available while supplies last — has ended. We only hope a few of our readers got theirs in on time.

Toca Hair Salon 2 is Google Play Family’s free app of the week

google-play-family-home-edit

Google Play’s free app of the week may be limited to kids, but it’s still an interesting little promotion that the Mountain View company has never done before. If you happen to need or enjoy these children’s games you’ll want to get your hands on this week’s offer.

It’s Toca Hair Salon 2, which — you guessed it — allows you to customize the hair of fictional toons with a wide selection of accessories, styles and probably copious amounts of hair spray. It’s usually .99, so if the price tag has kept you from getting your hands on it then there’s no excuse not to have it now. Grab it from Google Play right here.
