HTC One M9 drop and full water submersion tests make us cringe [VIDEOS]

We still have a few more days before you can officially mosey into a store and leave with a shiny new HTC One M9 in your pocket. After we saw the Samsung Galaxy S6’s durability put to the test, it’s now time for the the HTC One M9 to suffer the same fate.

Our latest double feature is brought to you by Phil Esposito and the twisted minds over at TechSmartt who wasted no time in taking up HTC on their new Uh Oh protection policy. We know most devices these days feature some level of water resistance, normally just enough to survive a few minutes out in the rain or a quick splash into a puddle.

HTC already told us, like last year’s One M8, the One M9 is rated for IPX3. This means it’s splash proof, but isn’t meant to be fully immersed in water. But what happens if (heaven forbid) your brand new HTC One M9 takes a dive into your toilet? Well, according to the video below, it might be salvageable even if swimming around for 20+ minutes (the Galaxy S6 hit a similar time before kicking the bucket). Now, we know the HTC One M9 can survive a quick dip in water — but what about when it slips out of your hand and comes into contact with cold, hard concrete. Once again, we have another video showing you this worse case scenario, illustrating exactly what happens when you drop the HTC One M9 from a series of different heights. The result? A few dings, dents, chips, and eventually… a broken display. No surprise there.

But all in all, the HTC One M9 held up rather well. Because the glass is kind of floating towards the middle of the device (thank goodness for the boom sound speakers, right?), a big drop onto its corner wont actually crack the display. It will, however, leave a nasty dent in the body.

While situations like this are enough to make any smartphone lover cringe, there’s a certain peace of mind that comes with knowing that no matter what happens to your HTC One M9 — whether it’s dropped, doused, or set on fire — HTC’s Uh Oh protection has you covered.

Samsung’s drop test shows the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are still reliable with all that glass

Earlier this week Samsung posed their own bend test for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. That was in response to a bend test conducted last week. Now, Samsung is back again with another reliability test of their own. This time it’s all about drops.

In Samsung’s test they drop both the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge from chest height on the top and bottom. They perform this test repeatedly, but neither one shows any sign of cracks, chips, or dents. Samsung claims that this is due to the Gorilla Glass 4, which is used on the face and back. Their test is performed in a closed environment under perfect conditions. It’s still very possible to crack any phone if it lands in the worst possible way.

We’ll likely hear a lot more about the reliability of these devices once more people get them. Right now Samsung is doing their part to reassure everyone that the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are just as solid as previous Galaxy devices. Are you convinced?

Nexus Player sees price drop on Google Store, now only $80 with free shipping

We’re barely a few days away from Google I/O and related or not, the ASUS-made Nexus player is now officially been marked down to in the Google Store (that’s about off from the original price). It’s not a bad deal, but still about more expensive than the recent markdown on Amazon. Of course, the Nexus Player on the Google Store comes with free shipping, so that’s something you may want to factor into pricing. Not sure how long this will last (it very well could be permanent), but if you prefer to make your purchases with Google, have at it.

How durable is the LG G4? This drop test has the answer [VIDEO]

Most normal folks aren’t even able to get their hands on the LG G4 yet, but the guys at TechRax already have one to abuse. They’ve put the device through an infamous drop test to see how it stands to the unfortunate event of it falling to hard concrete.

The results? Not too great. When dropped on its backside the device came out just fine, though that’s not much of a surprise considering the rear of the LG G4 is draped in genuine leather. Dropping it onto its face was a different story — the glass shattered in a lot more ways than one. That said, the touchscreen was still operable so it wasn’t all bad.

All in all, it’s probably a good idea to grab a case when you buy an LG G4 if you’re on the clumsy side and find yourself dropping your device a lot. Otherwise, be careful because this thing definitely isn’t indestructible.
