Micromax Yu’s Yureka phone begins receiving Cyanogen OS 12 (Lollipop)

Micromax promised the Lollipop upgrade for their Yu smartphone would be out soon, and they delivered. The company has announced that Cyanogen OS 12 — which is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop — is now rolling out to the Yu Yureka.

The upgrade brings the latest Cyanogen features, including Cyanogen Mail powered by Boxer, a more robust theme engine, support for Exchange email, support for multiple accounts on one device and everything that Android 5.0 Lollipop brings on its own.

Micromax says the upgrade is going out in stages over the next 3 days, so if you aren’t seeing it immediately then it shouldn’t be long before it makes its way to your device. Get yours updated and let us know how things go once you’ve gotten everything loaded up!

Verizon begins Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout for the Samsung Galaxy S4

Samsung Galaxy S4 users on Verizon are getting Android 5.0 Lollipop, or so says this support document on Verizon’s website. The upgrade brings everything you’d expect from Samsung’s Lollipop experience, including improved lock screen shortcuts and notifications, an updated recent apps experience and Material Design themeing throughout many of the system’s apps.

The software version rolling out is LRX22C.I545VRUG0C1, so keep that in mind when looking to pull it down. It should arrive to your handset over-the-air in due time, though you can always check for it by heading to the Settings menu. Don’t forget to get on WiFi and charge your battery to ensure things go smoothly!

Sony officially begins rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact

Sony has announced that two of their best phones from 2014 is now receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop. We’re referring to the Sony Xperia Z3 and Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. The upgrade is headed out to Baltic and Nordic countries first, but Sony promises that expansions will reach more regions a couple of weeks after.

They also mention that other products in the extensive Z lineup will also be getting their upgrades some point after that. Remember that they’ve promised to bring the upgrade to every single device in the Xperia Z family, so you don’t have to wonder whether your older device is on the roadmap.

Here are the changes Sony decided to highlight for those of you eager to upgrade:

• Fresh, streamlined looks – based on Google’s material design, but retaining our minimalistic approach to interface and application design

• New look notifications and lock screen – with fully customizable settings, so you only get the information you really need

• Multi user profiles and guest mode – making it easy for family and friends to use your device, or the creation of dual environments for work and play…

• Android for Work – not only are business-ready Xperia smartphones and tablets unique devices for work – with waterproof form factors, great battery life and productivity features – they will now also be part of the Android for Work ecosystem

• Better storage control and customisation – with the option to easily move applications from internal memory to SD card – giving you more control over your content, particularly useful for devices with slightly less space

Straight Talk Unlimited Data throttling now begins at 5GB for customers who bring their own phone

It’s no secret by now that Straight Talk begins throttling customers’ unlimited data once they reach a certain point. The cap used to be a hard 2.5GB until they increased it by 500MB a couple of years ago. Now it’s possible to get even more.

A new promotion for folks who bring their own phone to the company nets them 5GB of 4G LTE data, after which you’ll be slowed down to the less exciting world of 2G/3G. The change goes into effect for all their unlimited plans, though the baseline “All You Need” plan (where you only get 100MB of data period) is obviously left out.

Straight Talk’s website bills this as a “special offer,” so we’re not sure how long it will last or if it’s a permanent promotion. For what it’s worth, the change applies to both new and existing customers so if you’re already going on one of the company’s unlimited plans and you’re using a device you bought independently from Straight Talk you should automatically reap the benefits. We’ll be looking to find out more about the change in the moments to come.

LG G4 begins shipping this week

Though specific details are sparse, LG has announced that the LG G4 will begin shipping this week. That means decision times are near for smartphone fans trying to decide between the Samsung Galaxy S6 (review), HTC One M9 (review), and LG G4 (review).

Here is the vague rollout plan just unveiled by LG:

LG G4 will begin rolling out this week to consumers in key markets around the world, continuing throughout the month into June and beyond as more retailers and operators see what LG G4 has to offer their customers. Starting in Hong Kong, the G4 will follow with rollouts in Turkey, Russia and Singapore, eventually including most of Europe, North America, CIS, Southeast Asia, Middle East/Africa and South/Central America. Approximately 180 carriers and retails are already on board as G4 partners.

We’re still left without the specific LG G4 price details as the company has left that up to carriers in each region.

Now that we know the G4’s official launch will likely come to every market before the month of July, will be one of the customers waiting patiently for it to arrive in your locality?

T-Mobile LG G4 begins shipping tomorrow with a free 128GB microSD card

T-Mobile has confirmed that they will begin taking orders for the LG G4 online tomorrow, and that the flagship phone will be ready to ship as soon as you confirm your order. This is about a week ahead of its expected June 3rd in-store availability, so this may be the quicker option for you to get your hands on it if you don’t want to wait any longer.

Moto X (2013) begins soak testing for Android 5.1 Lollipop update

The original Motorola Moto X may be close to 2 years old, but that doesn’t mean users are any less impatient to get Lollipop. It has been a long wait for this big update. Last month we heard the update was in testing and would arrive in a few weeks if everything went well. Apparently everything went well, because now we’re hearing the update is in soak testing.

Software product manager David Schuster says they are soak testing in the U.S. right now. If everything looks good again we could see the official update roll out as early as next week. They also are soak testing in Brazil and Canada. In order to get the update notification make sure you’ve accepted any updates from the Play Store for Motorola Update Services (to version 4 or higher). Do we have any Moto X (1st Gen) soak testers?

Verizon Galaxy S5 Official Android 5.0 Lollipop Update to G900VVRU1BOA8 Begins

Verizon Galaxy S5 SM-G900V gets the official Android 5.0 Lollipop update to G900VVRU1BOA8! Samsung and Verizon has just started rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update containing the build number LRX21T.G900VVRU1BOA8 to all Galaxy S5 SM-G900V users. Verizon Galaxy S5 users will receive two OTA updates from Android 4.4.4 G900VVRU1ANK2. The first one is an updated version of Android 4.4.4 KitKat that comes in build number G900VVRU1ANK7 which technically prepares the device in compatibility mode to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop. Then followed by the Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware build LRX21T.G900VVRU1BOA8.

Verizon is the first US carrier that had to unleashed the first Android Lollipop update on Samsung Galaxy S5 in United States alone. While other carriers like Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T might as well and being expected to roll out the awaited Lollipop update to their own versions of Samsung Galaxy S5. As the Android 5.0 update has been gradually rolled out but might would not be taking too long enough before the Android 5.0 Lollipop update also reaches on all countries and carriers worlwide. Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900I Android 5.0 Lollipop G900IZTU1BOA1 Update Begins in Taiwan

The Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900I 4G LTE version has also started receiving its Android 5.0 Lollipop update. The new software builds with version number G900IZTU1BOA1 has just officially rolled out in Taiwan. Noting that the Galaxy S5 SM-G900I is only available in select countries, particularly in Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan and India. The Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900I was also acquired and branded with network providers such as Vodafone, Telstra, Optus. While the rest remained as unbranded or SIM-Free during its market-launched.
