Cyanogen OS 12 rollout resumes for OnePlus One with critical bug fixes, “OK OnePlus” in tow

Cyanogen Inc new logo

OnePlus unceremoniously halted the OnePlus One’s Cyanogen OS 12 update earlier this week in order to add in an”OK OnePlus” voice command, and just as they’ve promised the upgrade is going right back out before the weekend begins.

Cyanogen’s Steve Kondik shed more light on the rollout and why it had to happen. The main reason is that they encountered a critical bug that was of utmost importance to fix, specifically in areas of telephony and MMS messaging.

So here’s what’s going down:

  • Users who haven’t received the upgrade to Cyanogen OS 12 will now get a small prep upgrade, and then this new version over-the-air, complete with the voice command and bug fixes.

  • Those who have already received the upgrade will receive a small upgrade that includes the bug fixes and voice command.

And that’s that. Sometimes a delay is in the best interest of the masses, and we’re glad OnePlus and Cyanogen decided to do what was necessary to eradicate what could have turned out to be very serious issues. The upgrade is still rolling out in stages so go ahead and check for it once you’ve gotten to a WiFi hotspot and a decently charged battery.

Lollipop for the LG G3 and G2 on T-Mobile enters carrier testing phase, rollout imminent

lg g3 lollipop coming soon

If you’ve been keeping up with T-Mobile’s recently launched Software Updates page, you may have noticed some new activity. According to T-Mobile, the LG G3 and LG G2 should expect Android 5.0 Lollipop hitting their devices relatively soon. Both of the devices have officially left the “Manufacturer Development” stage and into the “T-Mobile Testing” phase for the major software update.

T-Mobile LG G3 Lollipop

T-Mobile’s Software Updates page is a handy tool for keeping up to date with software updates for a variety of recently launched Android flagships, with the carrier defining their testing phase as the following:

“During this stage, the device will go through T-Mobile certification process testing to make sure you get the best quality software possible.”

While this will no doubt come as welcomed news to LG G3 (and G2) owners, we should note that the AT&T’s LG G3 received Lollipop nearly 6 weeks ago (Sprint’s a few days later), where the Korean model saw it all the way back in November. Needless to say, it’s been a long time coming. We’ve seen reports of the update actually lagging up the LG G3 more than usual, so you may want to consider factory resetting after updating to start fresh.

That being said, keep an eye for any incoming updates and feel free to drop us a line at press@phandroid.com if you see anything pop up. Cheers.

Verizon begins Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout for the Samsung Galaxy S4

samsung galaxy s4 lollipop verizon

Samsung Galaxy S4 users on Verizon are getting Android 5.0 Lollipop, or so says this support document on Verizon’s website. The upgrade brings everything you’d expect from Samsung’s Lollipop experience, including improved lock screen shortcuts and notifications, an updated recent apps experience and Material Design themeing throughout many of the system’s apps.

The software version rolling out is LRX22C.I545VRUG0C1, so keep that in mind when looking to pull it down. It should arrive to your handset over-the-air in due time, though you can always check for it by heading to the Settings menu. Don’t forget to get on WiFi and charge your battery to ensure things go smoothly!

AT&T finally approves Android 5.0 Lollipop for the HTC One M8, rollout expected shortly

HTC One M8 Google Now Launcher DSC08168

It’s been a long wait, but we promise you — it’s worth it. HTC One M8 owners on AT&T had to sit back and watch as the other “Big 4″ carriers in the US pushed out Android Lollipop to the device.

But all that’s over. HTC Product Manger Mo Versi revealed on Twitter today that AT&T has finally green lit Lollipop for the HTC One M8. We’re not sure what the hold up was, but we’re glad it’s finally here.

Now about 5.1…

Googler says Android 5.1.1 rollout for the Nexus 9 is around the corner, blames last minute bugs for delay

Nexus 9 DSC07282

Last night we saw Android 5.1.1 Lollipop factory images made available for the Nexus 7 WiFi (2013 and 2012) as well as Nexus 10. But strangely missing from that group was the more recently launched Nexus 9 which, as it turns out, has yet to receive even the initial 5.1 update.

While the factory image for the Nexus 9 still isn’t available quite yet, a Googler on Google+ chimed in on the holdup. Although he admits not working directly on the Nexus 9, he did say that the team found some last minute bugs and once dealt with, a rollout should commence and isn’t far out.

We know, it’s not much, but it should help give at least a little peace of mind to those of you wondering where Android 5.1.1 was for the Nexus 9. Hang in there. We’re still waiting on cellular equipped Nexus smartphones and tablets.

Motorola says Lollipop for the original Moto X is being test driven, official rollout in a few weeks

Motorola Moto X DSC00695

Lollipop has got to be one of the more frustrating Android releases we’ve seen in quite sometime. Motorola knows your pain, and it’s the reason Motorola’s Senior Director of Software Product Management David Schuster took to Google+ to update us on the status of the Moto X 1st Gen and its planned update to Lollipop.

Instead of blaming buggy code, Schuster mentions that a lack of support from “some of our hardware partners” as the cause of the delay, but didn’t offer any more details outside of that. He did note that Lollipop is already being test driven here in the US and in Latin American regions, with the official over-the-air update not more than a few weeks off. That’s great news.

Exactly what the means for carrier versions of the Motorola Moto X is anyone’s guess. Just take solace in the fact that Lollipop is, in fact, coming and people are actively working to ensure it’s a smooth — and more importantly bug free — transition to Google’s latest.

Huawei gives some Honor 6 owners a chance to beta test Android 5.1 Lollipop before official rollout

Huawei Honor 6 Lollipop

It’s not the first OEM that comes to mind when you think of software updates, but Huawei has been making a better effort at supporting some of their flagships with newer versions of Android. A few weeks back they kicked off a new community forum where members could test out new software updates and even try out devices before they’re released to the public. Earlier this month, the allowed community member to test drive Android Lollipop on the Huawei Mate 2 and now they’re doing it again, this time with the Huawei Honor 6.

Huawei UK announced the news on their Facebook page, letting Honor 6 owners in Europe know they could test drive the new update which will bring the Honor 6 up to Android 5.1 along with EMUI 3.1 (Huawei’s custom user interface). When the Honor 6 launched in August of last year, it was running Android 4.4.2 KitKat so this new update is sure to make users happy (well, once it officially rolls out).

To get started, you’ll first need to sign up for Huawei’s “Honor Club” and drop them an email here with the subject ‘’Beta Test Honor 6” along with the IMEI number on your device and a short statement on why you should be the one to test the new update. Huawei will be hand-selecting 100 applicants in the UK, Germany, and France up until June 30th and you’ll need to remain in contact with Huawei to report any bugs.

Once again, this is beta software, so weirdness and general instability are almost certain. If that hasn’t scared you away then godspeed. Applicants will be notified by next week if they were selected to test the new software update. Cheers.

Verizon Galaxy S5 Lollipop Update G900VVRU1BOC4, 2nd Rollout

Verizon Galaxy S5 SM-G900V  gets new Lollipop update to G900VVRU1BOC4. The update is still base in Android 5.0 “LRX21T”   and this the second time around the latter receives a Lollipop update next to the previous version G900VVRU1BOA8 way back in February.  Noting that Verizon is the first US carrier who unleashed the Lollipop update on Galaxy S5 in USA alone. Whilst some carriers did not released any Lollipop update yet and has stayed in Android 4.4.4 KitKat until now.

Here’s what the software update reads in the system settings, Settings>>About Device:

Device Name: Samsung GALAXY S5
Model Number: SM-G900V
Android: 5.0 Lollipop
Baseband Version: G900VVRU1BOC4
Kernel version: 3.4.0-3846539
Build number: LRX21T.G900VVRU1BOC4
Hardware Version: G900V.05
KNOX Version: 2.3
Build date:  March 18,   2015
AP: G900VVRU1BOC4
CP: G900VVZW1BOC4
CSC:  G900VVRU1BOC4

In addition, while taking a closer look to the G900VVRU1BOC4 firmware build itself, it has the same kernel build version to G900VVRU1BOA8.

G900VVRU1BOA8

So the update might only brings some several improvements, bug-fixes and system enhancements. Whilst keeping the main key-features we have seen on the first update (G900VVRU1BOA8).

The Lollipop update technically brings some new features and enhancements such as Material Design, Lock screen, Touchwiz, Floating action button,  Interruption and Recent.  Just do read at Verizon support page to learn more of these new features are all about.

  • MATERIAL DESIGN

  • BASIC INTERACTION

  • LOCK SCREEN

  • TOUCHWIZ

  • FLOATING ACTION BUTTON

  • INTERRUPTIONS

  • RECENTS

So for those who already received the Lollipop update on the first week of February, might already get the update earlier as it was started in March 28 and still gradually rolled out in stages until now. The update weighs at 117 MB file size for the first update and 904 MB  for the actual Lollipop update. It depends on what Android version the device running and it might take around for 10 to 20 minutes to download and install.

Just head-over to Verizon’s support page — to learn about the specific definition of those addressed technical changelog by Verizon Wireless. Again the update usually released in stages, but better check the update if you have not seen the update yet. Just follow this step-by step-by-step instructions at Verizon (.pdf).

Just make sure your Galaxy S5 SM-G900V should not have been rooted.  If you have root, you must unroot your device first so you can perform an update without any hiccups or else you will just get into troubles on how to get the Lollipop update.
