Surprise: OnePlus One’s Lollipop updates are delayed

oneplus one lollipop

OnePlus made a commitment to get CyanogenMod 12S and OxygenOS out to OnePlus One users by the end of this month. They promised that a failure to do so would result in a phone giveaway to show how serious they were to that commitment.

Aaaaannd it looks like they’re giving away phones. OnePlus One held another Ask Me Anything session on the Android subreddit, and when asked about the Lollipop-based upgrades promised they had some unfortunate news to share: they aren’t positive they’ll be ready in time.

OnePlus says they have stable firmware ready to go and things are running as smoothly as they ought to be, but unforeseen delays in the certification process might extend the timeline a bit further than they originally anticipated. As such, they confirmed they will be giving away at least 5 OnePlus One units. That doesn’t sound like a whole lot to part ways with for a manufacturer, but when you have profit margins as slim as OnePlus’s it’s a pretty big deal.

Perhaps more troubling is that they aren’t willing to give us another estimated release date, but perhaps they’ve learned a valuable lesson in all this and have adopted Cyanogen’s old way of thinking: no ETAs on OTAs, and it’ll be ready when it’s ready. OnePlus One says to stay on the lookout for more information in the days to come.

T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z3, Z1s one step closer to Android Lollipop according to software updates page

T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z3 Android 50 Lollipop

It’s been a good few months since we saw Sony officially announce Lollipop for the Sony Xperia Z3, followed by a rollout for the unlocked US versions. The update has eluded carrier branded models in the US but by now it’s a story you’ve heard before. Carriers tend to delay the update process with the extensive testing that goes into any software update for a device operating on their network.

When it comes to the T-Mobile model, things weren’t looking so good given the phone disappeared from inventory a few weeks back. But it didn’t take long for the Z3 to return to T-Mobile’s store shelves (and at a discount no less), leaving us feeling a bit more optimistic that a Lollipop update was around the corner.

It now seems T-Mobile has recently updated their software updates page, with both the Sony Xperia Z3 and its older sibling, the Sony Xperia Z1s, showing that Lollipop has officially entered into the carrier testing phase. T-Mobile has 3 phases on their page: manufacturer development, T-Mobile testing, and then finally a completed status.

The next phase from here is the rollout and a completed status. Now that we’re one step closer, that rollout can’t be too far out. Stay tuned.

Verizon updates Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop

samsung-galaxy-tab-s-10.5

After watching as both AT&T and T-Mobile pushed out Lollipop to the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5, today we finally have Verizon following suit. The update, which rolled out only a few days ago on other carriers, officially brings the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop (software build T807VVRU1BOD2). It’s not the latest version of Android, but it’ll do.

Samsung updated WiFi-only versions of the tablet to 5.0.2 back in March and as we all know, it always takes sometime before it reaches LTE-equipped carrier models. The real question is whether or not the tablet will see a future update to newer versions of Lollipop, like recently launched Android 5.1.

G900HXXU1ANE2 Android 4.4.2 software updates released from May to June & July 2014

How to Update the Galaxy S5 SM-G900H to the latest 4.4.2 G900HXXU1ANE2 Software Release

Update to G900HXXU1ANE2 4.4.2 via Over-The-Air (OTA Update)

There are two types you can update your Samsung Galaxy S5 the first method is firmware update through over the air or called as OTA update, which usually a notification message will directly sent to you and saying that there is a new update available for download. You can also tap on your Galaxy S5 SM-G900I  Settings>>General tab, scroll to and tap System Update. It will automatically tells you that a new update is available or your software is up to date when there is none yet. You can simply tap install now when you want to perform an update or install later.

Update to G900HXXU1ANE2 4.4.2 via Kies

The second method is a firmware update through Samsung Kies. You may head-over to your local Samsung support page from where you can download Samsung Kies from there, and install it (guide for installation) in your Windows or Mac computer. Choose the new Kies 3 which supports the Galaxy S5 SM-G900I and other Samsung devices running with 4.3 ,4.4.2 and up OS . Once you installed Kies 3, all you need is connect your Galaxy S5 to the computer using the USB cable, then simply run and follow the Kies on-screen software update instructions.

Important Things you should do first before Performing a Software Update

According to Samsung you should prepare the following things before performing the software update. I will also add some useful insights why you should follow this procedures.

You should make sure your battery is fully charged before performing the software update. Do not also remove the battery during the software update is in progress. A power failures may cause damaged to your device that might results as we so-called “soft-bricks”. If this happens your device may just stuck on Samsung logo or welcome screen and can’t reboot normally.
You should back-up your important files, including contacts, emails, messages, photos, videos, apps and other stuff. Like I said while during software update process is interrupted there is a possibility that your data stored from your device internal SD card may lose or deleted when a sudden unexpected failure happens and it forces you to perform a factory.

Your device should not been modified or rooted, there is a certain circumstances that a modified and rooted Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900H may not accept any official software update anymore or it can accept an update but it might harm your device once the update has made. Learn about the new Samsung KNOX security suite. Most known error that says ‘firmware upgrade encountered an issue, please select recovery mode in kies and try again‘ you should try to avoid that from happening.

If anyone happens to be from Australia  and have had managed to received this update, just do share to everyone how’s your first impression on the G900HXXU1ANE2 4.4.2 update on your Galaxy S5 G900H. You may check everything, from new features it might have, network to data connectivity, speed, smoothness and don’t forget about the battery life performance.
