Amazon Fire TV is getting support for Bluetooth headsets, expandable USB storage and more

Amazon’s announced a great new update for their TV products, which include the Amazon Fire TV and Amazon Fire TV Stick. The two biggest features users will care about is support for expandable storage via the device’s USB port, as well as the ability to listen to your content using Bluetooth wireless headphones.

There’s also a neat feature that’ll easily allow you to bypass web authentication processes when you connect the Fire TV and TV Stick to certain public WiFi hotspots (such as those found in hotels, universities and coffee shops). Here’s the full list of what’s coming:

• Expandable USB storage on Amazon Fire TV—You can now use a connected USB mass storage device to expand your Fire TV storage for downloaded apps and games—this enables you to have more games downloaded for easy access.

KFC’s food trays with built-in Bluetooth keyboards need to come to every restaurant RIGHT NOW

File this one firmly under the “I never thought I wanted or needed this until I saw it” category. Germany KFC restaurants have started a limited trial run of new food trays. Big deal, right? Moto 360 (2nd Gen) looks to have gotten its Bluetooth certification

It was during last year’s Google I/O that Motorola formally unveiled the Moto 360 — the world’s first round smartwatch powered by Android Wear. Although it’s not in any way certain, it only makes sense that Motorola could be planning to do the same for a follow up.

With this year’s Google I/O looming on the horizon (things officially kick off May 28th) a mysterious Motorola device — going by the device name BTMW03 — recently gained its certification via the Bluetooth Special Interest group. Now, there’s nothing in the documentation that says that this is for a fact the Moto 360 2nd Gen. But model number is way too close to the original Moto 360’s BTMW01 that appeared around this same time last year.

Whether it’s at Google I/O or a separate event, we imagine it wont be too much longer before Motorola makes this thing official. Now if we can just figure out exactly how they’ll be updating the hardware from last year’s model, we could sleep a little better at night.

Hands-on: Huawei Talkband B2 Fitness Band and Bluetooth Headset

The cat is out of the bag: the Huawei Talkband B2 is now available for purchase. I’ve been playing with the half fitness band / half bluetooth headset for the past 24 hours- not nearly long enough to provide a review – but long enough to start formulating some opinions. We’ll post our full review next week, but until then, here are some early impressions:

• The band itself is more comfortable than that of competing products from the likes of Jawbone and Fitbit. The sizes are incremented with 10 holes , ensuring various wrist sizes equal comfort. I found the fit to be comfortably snug and secure.


• The snap-back-hat style clasp is also effective (where similar products from competitors have been difficult to initially snap in place and troublesome to keep snapped throughout the day).


• Removal of the watch face (aka the bluetooth headset) is absolutely effortless as is fitting it back into position


• The earpiece seems a little big, but not to the point of discomfort. The rubber ear piece is also removable so you can theoretically replace it with a different size from an aftermarket supplier.


• The Talkband charges via MicroUSB- no annoying proprietary connections or irritating docks.


• Downloading the app from the Play Store and syncing it with UP by Jawbone was easy peasy.


• The device looks nice while worn on the wrist but when examined more closely it seems a bit like cheap plastic. However, considering the likelihood of wearing while exercising (and therefore sweating), this may be a strength rather than a weakness. Keep in mind the Talkband B2 is water and dust resistant.

That’s just a quick rundown of my initial first impressions after 24 hours wearing the B2. It’ll take me awhile longer to formulate concrete opinions, but stay tuned for the full review in the near future!

The Moto Hint looks like something you’d find in an advanced crime film. It slots into your ear with a profile so thin that some people might mistake you for a crazy person talking to yourself. If you don’t mind being “that guy” then be sure to buy one before it’s too late.

Three OnePlus 2 variants stop at Bluetooth SIG, one of which has 4GB of RAM

This is odd. Three different variants of the OnePlus 2 have shown up for approval at the Bluetooth SIG. We’ve got the A2001, A2003 and A2005 on tap.

Our first guess is that these could be phones with three different storage capacities, or perhaps different modems for different regions. Unfortunately those questions won’t be easy to answer until these things start popping up in the wild.

What we do know, though, is that one of the models — the A2003, to be exact — was recently spotted over at GeekBench with 4GB of RAM. With OnePlus’s whole “Never Settle” motto we wouldn’t put the use of 4GB of RAM outside the realm of possibility for the OnePlus 2.

For what it’s worth, the benchmark confirms that it sports a Qualcomm octa-core chipset, though it curiously shows clock speeds of up to 1.55GHz, which we know is close to the top-end clock speed of 1.6GHz that the four Cortex-A53 cores inside the Snapdragon 810 (which was recently confirmed to be inside the OnePlus 2) boast.

 

It’s possible that was either a configuration error or the benchmark simply hasn’t been updated to properly read the chipset. Whatever the case may be, things are happening and we’re inching closer to that big late July reveal that should answer any and every question we have once and for all.
