Up close and personal with the beautiful Huawei Watch [VIDEO]

Huawei Watch

One of the first surprising stories to come out of Mobile World Congress this year was a beautiful smartwatch made by an unlikely source. The Huawei Watch was officially announced on Sunday, and we’ve been dying to get a closer look at it. We were finally able to check out this device in the flesh, and now we’re even more excited about it.

The Huawei Watch is a round Android Wear device, but with one big difference. Current round smartwatches have some sort of trade-off for the display. The Moto 360 has the infamous “flat tire,” and LG’s watches have completely round displays, but a lot of bezel around them. Huawei has managed to make a completely round display with not a lot of bezel. It looks like a legit watch.

The display is 1.4-inch AMOLED with 286ppi. It’s powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm processor, and has 4GB of storage, 512MB of RAM, 300mAh battery, and a 6-axis sensor for fitness tracking. The Huawei Watch will be sold in 20 countries (including North America), but we don’t know when it will go on sale or how much it will cost. When it does go on sale it will be available in black, silver, and gold. This might be the best looking Android Wear device to date.

Swipes is one of the most beautiful task managers we’ve ever seen

swipes

Would you believe me if I told you a popular iOS app with a design that would make Jony Ive smile has come to Android and embraced Material Design? Well believe it, because that is exactly what has happened. Swipes is a task management app that aims to help you stay organized and get things done. It works a lot like Inbox and Mailbox.

With Swipes you can plan your day on a timeline. If you don’t have time to do something right now you can easily snooze it for later. As the name suggests, the interface uses swipes to archive tasks, snooze tasks, and more. You can set priority for tasks, get reminders, and even use a light or dark theme. Swipes has Evernote integration right now, but soon they will also add support for Gmail and Google Calendar.

This is one of the nicest apps that has come from iOS. It’s great to see a developer treat each platform with care. You can also access Swipes from the web, which is very handy, and a Chrome extension is coming soon. If you’re looking for a clean and simple app to help with your to-do lists this is an excellent option. Swipes is available for free from the Play Store right now.

Samsung shows us how the beautiful Galaxy S6 Edge is made [VIDEO]

Samsung Galaxy S6 design story

Although we haven’t been the biggest Samsung supporters in years past, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge officially won us over. We talked about the new design in length in both our initial Galaxy S6 review and followup S6 Edge review. Long story short, the phones look and feel great (although the Edge can be a bit awkward to hold).

Today, Samsung is showing us all the care that went into designing the Galaxy S6 Edge and how they “mastered impossible materials” to make the gorgeous device you see before you. It’s an ad, make no mistake. The video doesn’t really take us behind the scenes, or show the people who help build their curvy new smartphone. Instead, we see Samsung heating up and bending the Gorilla Glass 4 that goes onto units, forging its metal frame in the fiery furnaces of Mordor Foxconn, and cutting chamfered edges with diamonds.

It’s sad that its more practical and lower priced sibling — the regular Galaxy S6 — doesn’t get the same video treatment. Guess that one is a little more boring. In any case, you can check out Samsung’s latest Galaxy S6 Edge video down below.
